Sportpesa Is Back! Courts Reopen Their Mpesa Paybill, Website And Bank Accounts

Sportpesa is back! Yes, you read that right! The Kenyan premier online gambling venture that broke all borders to became Africa’s biggest sports betting company is back in the motherland. Sportpesa just won a court ruling in which Lady Justice Pauline Nyamweya ordered Safaricom, Kenya’s biggest Telco, to reopen all MPESA Paybill numbers of the betting company.

“The ex parte Applicant is granted leave to apply for an order of Certiorari to move into this Court for purposes of being quashed, a decision of the Respondent contained in the letter dated 31st October 2024 Ref No. BCLB 11/152 VOL. I (14) indefinitely and unilaterally suspending the lawfully issued license to the Ex Parte Applicant,” Lady Justice Nyamweya ordered.

At the same time, the Communication Authority of Kenya was ordered to reopen the Sportpesa website, pieces were falling into place for an eventual comeback of the once very popular company.

In fact, the venture was so popular such that a company called Milestone Games Limited had applied to use the trade name “Sportpesa” but it was barred by Betting Control and Licensing Board on grounds that Pevan East Africa Limited, the parent company and owner of the name, had a filed a court case over licensing.

You might be wondering, does this mean that you can start placing bets with Sportpesa instantly? We did a quick search of their website on Google, the Kenyan site seems to have slightly redesigned elements but most of it remains the same while staying true to its blue brand color theme. In addition, games to bet on are being displayed including their respective odds and everything. It seems Sportpesa is truly back and running as the CEO wrote on Twitter.

“SportPesa is back! I’m happy to announce that the SportPesa brand is back under a new BCLB license holder, ” tweeted Captain Karauri
